  1. Back when I was in school, we had a program called "Work Experience" (I don't know if other countries have something similar). Two weeks of work in a job, usually of your own choice. I picked a position in a small local zoo, as it looked to be interesting.
One bloke on the staff looked like an excellent employee, pleasant friendly manner, good with the animals, explained about their lives and it seemed like he was in the perfect job.
I was getting some buckets out of an old storeroom behind the monkey cages, this bloke comes in, looks around VERY carefully to make sure no-one could see him, (which made me think what's he up to?) Then he starts grabbing the monkeys by the tail, whirling them through the air, dropping them and grabbing the next one off the climbing frame and doing it again. They were terrified and screaming, he's smiling to himself, only did it for a minute, then carefully looks around again and leaves.
I've always wondered since then how many similar people there are in those jobs?

  2. @ Doug

I tend not to believe in monsters: the peadophiles, terrorists, serial killers, oath breakers, so forth. I've met more than enough selfish assholes in my time, but cowardice has always seemed to be far more rampant than evil - the cowardice not to act, not to speak, to allow broken systems to continue.

    But I'm beginning to wonder.

I watched an hour-long interview with the Canadian Prime Minister, and one of my country's top journalists, and the evil that seethes out that man's pores is palpable, if you have the eyes to see it. He's the Big Daddy of Canada, whom you MUST show respect to, but is KIND enough to allow you to question *some* of his decisions - even though you are a silly adolescent for doing so. Anything he does is Moral by definition.

I begin to wonder just how many monsters there really are within the human race - and in what corners of society they're hiding. I'm pretty sure it's not the crack-heads in the alley that I really have to worry about.

  3. Starting to drag. What is this leading too? After 200 pages you'd think we'd have some idea of the direction this is going. Revolution? What happened to him seeing things - that never went anywhere. You have quite a selection of paths you could take but it is now long past the time to choose one.

  7. Is more needed ?
In the Troopers' nation, there will be no happy ending, only Revolution. Or not.
